A Steering Committee is taking public input for a study of the Lexington Rd. Corridor, a major gateway into Athens-Clarke County and a significant part of District 2.
This study - called “Connect Athens” - is a process that will likely help determine how money is spent to develop Lexington Rd. and the area surrounding it. District 2 County Commissioner Mariah Parker is a member of the Steering Committee and sees this study as an opportunity for increasing access on foot and by bike, economic development that benefits District 2, and criminal justice reform. The ACC Jail, which is located on Lexington Rd., was renovated in 2016 as part of a $65 million expansion project. Parker sees the “Connect Athens” study as an opportunity to go in a different direction.
Parker is available to receive input on how residents would like to see Lexington Rd. change or stay the same. Residents can also visit connect-athens.org or attend a workshop in November to share their input.
